Globe Chandelier

Beautiful “chandelier” made of 15 world globes. This 2m high piece of art was made by Benoit Vieubled and called “Monde à l’endroit, Monde à l’envers”.

My current project is titled 'Girl Anachronism' and it's taken me a long time to really execute what I'm trying to say. The idea was based of excessive internet/phone usage and taking a look at modern technology- how it affects what we do and how we live, especially in comparison to the pre-mobile and internet eras. There is a heavy focus on how I personally feel out of place and detached from everything that's going on today (musically). The birth of the internet has really changed the music industry and how we listen to our music. In a very small nutshell, I'm doing a lot of stuff on people I idolise from the 60s and 70s in music, there is a distinct emphasis on things that make these people unique. I still need to really show why it is these eras interest me so much from any other. So it's an illustration project based on diary entries, musicians and stuff from some 35mm film.
There is a connection I feel with this music that I don't in most 21st century music. Maybe it's because I feel as though it's all been done before... this project is more like a personal journey. So, in the end it may not be the best thing I've ever done but I hope I'll be proud of it and I know I'll learn a lot about myself.

my collection of cameras

I don't know whether I should be proud of having this many cameras or mildly embarrassed. I haven't got round to using half of them yet.

I developed some film today one from my Oktomat (never had a successful film from that camera) and another from my new Yashica that doesn't have a light meter. They both came out as well as I could have expected. I'm really pleased to be honest, especially with the Yashica. I managed to get the exposure right on the vast majority of them. Here are some of my favourites-

The final ideas for my project are coming together. It has taken a while because I was quite experimental. Whether my work looks ambitious and original or not, it has been a journey and a big step for me because I pushed myself into the realms of what I would call street photography. I was made to take photos of people during the diagnostic stage and I think my ideas lead on from there. It's important to me because I've developed in this area which I neglected for so long though fear.
So either way, Saul Leiter has been a big influence on my work during the past few months but after seeing Friedrich Seidenstücker in Berlin, I appreciated the aesthetics of black and white a lot more, shot a black and white roll of film and have started to make prints (which I hadn't done in over a year). I'm just getting the hang of getting the right exposure so my final resolved images will be black and white film prints, I think. The subject matter got a bit woolly because I was focusing on the architectural and also people in the city while trying to abstract it and it all got very messy but recently I've tried to focus on very important bits of information and telling as much of a story as I can through one frame- primarily being a voyeur into someone's life (picking out individuals in a busy city) while also showing the environment they are in. I find the best way to do this is through reflections, condensation on windows etc, and this gives the abstraction that I was always looking for after seeing Saul Leiter's work. I need to put everything I have learned into one more roll of film and make fantastic prints.

the following photos are some of my scans of my black and white prints.
